My Fun
I am treating this website as a serious presence on the web. I chose not to treat is a blog because a blog requires that one regularly updtae it, even if you have nothing to say.

I am the adoptive parent of a black child in South Africa - we became involved with him before 1994 (generally, mistakenly) assumed to be the start of the 'New South Africa'. After he lived with us for a while I started writing the story of our experiences. Sometimes humorous, sometimes bitter about society, sometimes philosophical (depends on how much whiskey I had at the time of writing).

I also started writing a book about health issues, smoking etc. Much of this is tongue in cheek. Much is based on the neurological insights about the role of Dopamine in the brain.

I am now publishing these chapters on a near weekly basis on my blog.

I do this because I am very proud of what my country achieved.

The only country in the world where a minority group held the power (by a so-called democratic process of elections, but ellections by this minority group) and then a referendum to give a majority group in the country the vote (i.e. voting that they will never have the power ever again).

This is the only example of peaceful transition of power in the world. AND IT WORKED!!

When one is realistic then this has to be something anyone involved can be truly proud of.

South Africa is about the size of TEXAS.

Comparisons with USA achievements are irrelevant.
Here is a list of South african achievements (done about 2007).

I add to the list below:
1. Was alowed back in the Rugby world cup in 1996: won it twice (50% of the world cups it played in. Much better than New Zeeland, Australia and Great Brittain).
2. Shares 1st or 2nd place world wide with Australia on most Cricket measures.
3. Hosted Rugby World Cup, and in 2010 the Soccer World Cup.
