What I'd like to do

What I’d like to do

Visitors to this site would mostly be people interested in how they can use me. Ultimately the best for me and my clients will be where we understand each others needs.

I wrote The Advertised Mind (2005) because advertising and research has been my life passion. I now realize there is more to the topic and I am now am writing The Story of Advertising Emotions and Brand Feelings (due for publication end 2009 under pressure from my publisher Kogan-Page).

I sold my company Impact Information to Millward Brown in 2001, and ended my earn out in 2007. Since then I have been Chairman of South Africa working only half time.

In that time I have done a number of ‘paid for’ talks at conferences. The attraction has been converting my business class ticket to 2 economy plus tickets (for my wife) and having a holiday seeing the world. (I.e. it has been 'by invitation and attraction' not business)

I also agreed to a “Visiting Professor” job at the Copenhagen Business School where I do all my teaching in one month to 80 masters students. This is effectively a free holiday in Europe for us for a month. Given the status of the CBS this also adds to my CV.

I have three passions:

  1. To talk about neuro-marketing/advertising without the ‘hype’, i.e. based on my book The Advertised Mind.
  2. To convince Creative Directors to take charge of copy-testing (a topic I talked to at the VISA card company with their agency OMD in Singapore).
  3. To convince advertisers that PVRs are not the ‘death of the 30 second ad’, but makes it more effective due to ‘Inadvertent Attention’ (Published in ADMAP).
Now that I am retiring from Millward Brown shortly Conference Speaking and doing seminars and consultancy will be my next career.

(Obviously this website is set up to generate conference speaking assignments)

I know that keynote speaker assignments out of SA become expensive due to travel. If a few of these can be combined so that the travel cost is shared, then it works for me and the clients.

I’d like a teaching assignment similar to the one in Copenhagen in USA and one in Asia.
